About Fischer Park in New Braunfels

Fischer Park is the largest park in the New Braunfels, Texas park system, spanning 62 acres. Located on a hilltop, it offers panoramic views of the surrounding area. The park was developed on land that was formerly the Fischer family homestead, dating back to 1946. In 2007, the Fischer family sold 55 acres to the city and gifted an additional 3 acres to the New Braunfels Parks Foundation, with the city later purchasing 4 more acres to complete the park.

The park features over two miles of greenway trails suitable for walking, running, and bicycling. These trails wind through the park, providing visitors with opportunities to enjoy fresh air, sunshine, and nature. Thirty acres of the park are preserved as natural prairie, maintaining some of the area's native habitat.

Fischer Park includes two fishing ponds, which are designated as Texas Parks and Wildlife Community Fishing Lakes. These ponds are stocked annually with channel catfish and are subject to special regulations. A state fishing license and freshwater stamp are required for fishing in these ponds.

The park offers various educational and recreational facilities. The Nature Education Center provides programs and activities for visitors of all ages, including nature camps and field trips. The park also features a Monarch Waystation, which is a pollinator and butterfly garden used for demonstration, community involvement, and educational purposes.

For families and children, Fischer Park provides multiple amenities. There are two playgrounds with cushioned flooring for safety. A splash pad, open from spring through October, offers a fun way to cool off during warmer months. The water from the splash pad is recycled through the park's pond system and used for irrigation.

Fischer Park also includes areas for picnics and gatherings, with pavilions available for rent. These spaces are suitable for birthday parties, family events, and other social gatherings. The park's design incorporates elements that make it accessible to visitors of all abilities.

Throughout the year, Fischer Park hosts various programs and activities, such as kayaking, archery, birding walks, and nightlife hikes, providing opportunities for visitors to engage with nature and learn about the local environment.
