Calaveras Lake Park

Calaveras Lake Park is located approximately 20 miles southeast of downtown San Antonio, Texas. The park surrounds Calaveras Lake, a 3,624-acre reservoir created in 1969 to serve as a cooling pond for a series of power plants operated by CPS Energy. The lake and surrounding parkland offer various recreational opportunities for visitors.

The park features multiple camping areas, including sites for RVs and primitive camping. Day use areas are available for picnicking and relaxation. The lake itself is a popular destination for fishing and boating enthusiasts. Anglers can target species such as red drum, hybrid striped bass, channel catfish, blue catfish, and largemouth bass.

Calaveras Lake Park is open seven days a week from 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM. Entrance fees apply, with different rates for adults, children, seniors, and military personnel. The park also offers annual passes for frequent visitors.

The landscape around the lake includes cattails and bulrushes along the shoreline, providing natural habitats for local wildlife. Visitors can enjoy hiking trails and observe various bird species attracted to the lake environment.

It's important to note that while the park offers recreational activities, its primary function is to support power generation. As such, water levels and conditions may fluctuate based on the needs of the power plant.
