About Utah Lake State Park in Provo
Utah Lake State Park is located on the eastern shore of Utah Lake, the largest freshwater lake in Utah. The park sits just west of Provo and provides access to the 148-square-mile lake.
The park offers opportunities for boating, fishing, swimming and other water recreation activities. Popular fish species in Utah Lake include channel catfish, walleye, white bass, and black bass. With an average water temperature of 75 degrees Fahrenheit in summer, the lake is suitable for swimming and water sports.
For overnight visitors, the park has a campground with 31 RV sites that include water and electrical hookups. Day use facilities include boat ramps, docks, picnic areas, and a beach. There are also trails for walking and biking along the lakeshore.
The park provides scenic views of Utah Lake and the surrounding Wasatch Mountains. However, visitors should be aware that algal blooms can sometimes affect water quality and restrict lake access during summer months. The park is also located near Provo Airport, so some aircraft noise can be expected.
Utah Lake State Park serves as a convenient base for exploring the broader Utah Valley area, including nearby Provo Canyon and other outdoor recreation opportunities in the Wasatch Range. The park is open year-round, though some facilities and services may be limited during winter months.
