Ewald Park

Ewald Park is a 3.88-acre public park located in the West End of Alexandria, Virginia. The park is situated along Duke Street, offering a green space for local residents and visitors.

Currently, Ewald Park features a lighted basketball court, a playground, and a parking lot. The park also includes an open grass area that is frequently used for casual soccer games, though it is not officially programmed for organized sports activities.

The park has been identified as underutilized and in need of improvements. In 2015, the City of Alexandria approved a set of recommendations to enhance the park's facilities and accessibility. These plans include renovating and relocating the playground, adding parkour fitness equipment, and implementing stormwater management measures.

Safety has been a concern at Ewald Park due to its topography and hidden areas not visible from Duke Street. As part of the improvement plans, the city aims to enhance lighting throughout the park, including pathways and activity areas, to promote a sense of security and improve visibility.

The City of Alexandria is actively seeking community input and applying for grants to fund the park's revitalization. The project is expected to enter the design phase in 2025, with construction planned to begin in late 2026 and conclude in mid-2027.
