Chinquapin Park

Chinquapin Park & Forest Park is a multi-use recreational area located in Alexandria, Virginia. Situated atop one of the highest points in the city, this park encompasses one of the largest tracts of forested land in Alexandria.

The park features a diverse landscape, including wooded areas, open playing fields, and a community garden. Trails meander through the woods and creek bottoms, providing optimal conditions for birdwatching, especially during migration seasons. The open fields adjacent to the wooded areas offer additional opportunities for wildlife observation.

Chinquapin Park is home to a variety of plant and animal species. The community garden attracts numerous butterfly species, including the eastern tiger swallowtail. The park's name comes from the Chinquapin tree, a sub-species of the Chestnut family that is native to the area's forests.

The park is not only a natural haven but also a recreational hub. It features a year-round 25-meter indoor pool and diving well, part of the Chinquapin Park Recreation Center & Aquatics Facility. This facility offers various amenities and programs for visitors of all ages.
