About American Legion Memorial Park in Everett

American Legion Memorial Park, also known as Legion Park, is a 4.0-acre public park located in Everett, Snohomish County, Washington. Situated on Alverson Boulevard on the north side of Everett, the park offers panoramic views of Port Gardner Bay, Gedney (Hat) Island, Whidbey Island, and Camano Island.

The park features a diverse landscape with shady old trees, spacious lawns, and various recreational facilities. It is divided by a road, with the western half primarily consisting of grassy areas and benches, while the eastern half contains most of the park's amenities.

A significant feature of American Legion Memorial Park is the Evergreen Arboretum and Gardens, located at the west end of the park. Opened on April 11, 1963, the arboretum spans 2.4 acres and has grown to include ten themed gardens maintained by volunteers. These gardens showcase a variety of native and exotic plants, making it a point of interest for botany enthusiasts and casual visitors alike.

The park's northwestern scenic viewpoint was renamed Hibulb Lookout in 2014, honoring a former Snohomish village that was once located nearby. Interpretive signs throughout the park reveal its rich history, including information about Hibulb Village, which was the Snohomish People's primary winter home and a hub for trade, leadership, and socialization for centuries.

American Legion Memorial Park serves as a popular destination for various activities, including picnicking, sports, and relaxation. Its combination of natural beauty, historical significance, and recreational facilities makes it a valuable community asset for Everett residents and visitors.
