About Nora's Woods in Seattle

Nora's Woods is an undeveloped city park and native plant garden located in the Madrona neighborhood of Seattle, Washington. The park occupies a 0.35-acre (0.14 hectare) area, roughly the size of a house lot. It is named after Seattleite Nora Wood, who purchased the land in 1987 and later bequeathed it to The Trust for Public Land upon her death in 1989.

The park features a small, wooded area that serves as a natural oasis within the urban landscape. It provides a habitat for native plants and offers visitors a glimpse of the area's natural ecology. The space is characterized by its gently sloping hillside, which contains walking paths that allow visitors to explore the park's flora.

Cleanup and development of Nora's Woods began in the late 1990s, with neighborhood volunteers working to transform the previously overgrown and neglected property into a public green space. In 1998, it was officially designated as a city park.

Nora's Woods is part of the Columbia Street pollinator pathway, which connects it to other green spaces in the area, including the 18th Avenue P-Patch and the Seattle University campus. This connection helps support local biodiversity and provides a corridor for pollinators and other wildlife.

The park serves as a quiet retreat for local residents and a small-scale example of urban conservation efforts. It stands as a testament to community involvement in preserving natural spaces within city limits.
