About Smith Cove Park in Seattle
Smith Cove Park is a waterfront park located in the Magnolia neighborhood of Seattle, Washington. Situated just west of Pier 91 on Elliott Bay, this Port of Seattle park offers visitors a unique blend of urban and natural environments.
The park features a 0.7-mile jogging and biking path that winds past warehouses before opening up to a concrete promenade along the Smith Cove bulkhead. This promenade provides expansive views across Elliott Bay, stretching all the way to Alki Point. Visitors can observe the bustling port activity while enjoying the serene waterfront setting.
One of the park's main attractions is its picnic area, where tables are available for public use. These tables offer an ideal spot for visitors to relax and take in the scenic views of the bay and the surrounding landscape. The park is also known for its wildlife, particularly the variety of waterfowl that can be observed, including ducks and seagulls.
Smith Cove Park is not just a place for passive recreation. The western portion of the park, located to the west of 23rd Avenue West, has traditionally been used for youth soccer and other active sports. There are plans to maintain and enhance this area for various recreational activities, including soccer, lacrosse, ultimate frisbee, and baseball/softball.
The park is currently undergoing development to improve its facilities and expand its offerings. Future plans include enhancing the existing sports fields, improving beach access, and potentially adding features such as a dog park, walking trails, and sand volleyball courts. These developments aim to make Smith Cove Park a more versatile and accessible recreational space for the community.
