Warren G. Magnuson Park

Warren G. Magnuson Park is a 350-acre public park located in the Sand Point neighborhood of Seattle, Washington. It is the second largest park in Seattle, after Discovery Park. The park sits on the site of the former Naval Station Puget Sound, which operated as a military base from 1926 to 1970.

The park offers over four miles of walking trails along the shores of Lake Washington, providing visitors with scenic views of the water and surrounding landscape. The park's terrain includes grassy fields, wetland areas, and a mix of evergreen and deciduous trees.

Magnuson Park features a rich history, with many of its structures dating back to its time as a naval air station. The park's Historic District contains over 20 brick and metal buildings constructed in the 1930s and 1940s, showcasing Art Deco style architecture. These preserved structures offer a glimpse into Seattle's military past.

The park has undergone significant environmental restoration efforts, particularly in its wetland areas. These restored habitats now support a variety of wildlife and serve as an important ecological resource within the urban environment.

Magnuson Park offers a wide range of recreational facilities and activities for visitors. It includes sports fields for various games, a boat launch for water access, a swimming beach on Lake Washington, and an off-leash dog area. Public art installations are scattered throughout the park, adding cultural interest to the natural surroundings. One notable piece is the "Fin Project," which uses decommissioned submarine fins to create a sculpture resembling a pod of orcas.
