About Sky Prairie Park in Spokane
Sky Prairie Park is a 26.2-acre community park located in northwest Spokane, Washington. The park offers a serene environment for residents and visitors alike. Completed in 2001 at a cost of $2 million, Sky Prairie Park features a wide open space that preserves a remnant of the native prairie landscape.
The park is designed to serve a broad area of the community, being one of only three designated community parks in Spokane alongside Riverfront Park and Manito Park. It is accompanied by the adjacent 26-acre Austin Ravine Conservation Area, which provides additional open space for visitors to enjoy.
Sky Prairie Park offers a variety of recreational facilities for all ages. A one-mile trail loop meanders through the park, providing users with exercise opportunities regardless of their skill level. Boulder markers are placed at each tenth of a mile along this loop. The park also features multiple playground areas, with separate structures for older children and toddlers.
In recent years, community members and Eastern Washington University students have collaborated to develop a master plan for future improvements to Sky Prairie Park. This plan, approved by the Park Board in November 2016, outlines potential additions such as a splash pad, circuit training court, and pickleball lines.
