About Emerson East Park in Madison

Emerson East Park is a small urban park located along E. Johnson St. in Madison, Wisconsin. Covering 0.78 acres, this mini park serves the Emerson East neighborhood. The park was formerly known as Pennsylvania Park before being renamed in June 2019 by the Board of Park Commissioners to better reflect its location within the Emerson East community.

In 2018, the park received a notable addition with the installation of a public art project called "The People's Pronouns." Created by Wisconsin artist Ray Chi, this artwork consists of three sculptures spelling out the words "WE," "US" and "OUR" in perforated, powder-coated steel and hardwood. The sculptures span the long, narrow parkway at the corner of East Johnson and First streets, serving as a welcoming gateway to the Emerson East neighborhood.

The park is open daily from 4:00 AM to 10:00 PM, providing local residents with a convenient outdoor space for relaxation and community gatherings. While compact in size, Emerson East Park plays an important role in the neighborhood by offering green space in an urban setting.
