Warner Park

Warner Park is a 213-acre community park located on the northeast side of Madison, Wisconsin near Lake Mendota. Established in 1939, it is one of the largest parks in Madison's park system.

The park features expansive natural areas including woodlands, prairies, and wetlands surrounding a 40-acre lagoon. These diverse habitats support a variety of wildlife and over 100 species of birds, making Warner Park a popular spot for nature observation and bird watching.

Warner Park is home to several recreational facilities. The Warner Park Community Recreation Center provides indoor amenities like a gymnasium, fitness center, and community rooms. Outdoor athletic facilities include baseball/softball diamonds, soccer fields, and tennis courts. A beach area on Lake Mendota offers swimming access.

The park hosts many community events throughout the year, including festivals, charity walks/runs, and the popular Fourth of July fireworks display called Rhythm & Booms. Warner Park is also home to the Madison Mallards baseball team, who play their home games at the "Duck Pond" stadium within the park.

Warner Park's history is closely tied to Madison's water management. The lagoon was created in the 1950s as a catch basin for stormwater runoff from nearby urban development. Over the years, the park has evolved to balance recreational uses with preservation of natural habitats.
