About Cupertino Park in Milwaukee
Cupertino Park is a small public park located in the Bay View neighborhood of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Situated along the shores of Lake Michigan, the park offers visitors scenic views of the water and surrounding landscape. The park covers approximately 7.5 acres of land and was originally developed as part of South Shore Park in the 1920s. In 1997-1998, it was separated from South Shore Park and renamed to honor former Milwaukee County Parks Director Virgil Cupertino.
The park features a mix of natural and landscaped areas, including grassy open spaces and trees that provide shade for visitors. A segment of the Oak Leaf Trail, a paved multi-use path, runs through Cupertino Park, connecting it to the broader Milwaukee County Parks system and providing opportunities for walking, jogging, and cycling.
One of the park's notable features is its fishing pier, which extends into Lake Michigan and offers anglers a chance to cast their lines into the lake's waters. The park also includes a small beach area, though swimming is not recommended due to the lack of lifeguards and potential water quality concerns.
Cupertino Park serves as a quiet retreat for local residents and visitors, offering a space for passive recreation and enjoyment of the lakefront environment. Its location adjacent to South Shore Park allows easy access to additional amenities and recreational opportunities in the larger park complex.
