About Davidson Park in Milwaukee

Davidson Park is a 4.8-acre public green space located on the corporate campus of Harley-Davidson in Milwaukee's Near West Side neighborhood. Opened in June 2024, the park was developed by the Harley-Davidson Foundation in response to community input, transforming a former parking lot into an urban oasis.

The centerpiece of Davidson Park is "The Hub," a sunken multi-use events space approximately 272 feet wide. This amphitheater-like area features tiered seating and is surrounded by lush plantings, including 120 native plant species. The Hub provides views of Harley-Davidson's historic brick buildings on one side and the park's green spaces on the other.

Davidson Park incorporates sustainable design elements, including a dynamic system of green infrastructure. This system uses native bioswales, permeable pavers, and cisterns to capture and manage stormwater, contributing significantly to regional infrastructure and environmental efforts. The park's design aims to be one of the first SITES-certified projects in Wisconsin, showcasing a commitment to sustainability.

The park features several distinct areas, including Main Street, a pedestrian thoroughfare designed to host events such as farmers markets and food truck gatherings. Union Plaza serves as the main pedestrian entrance, while the North and South Lawns provide open green spaces for relaxation and community events. The park also includes viewing hills, a playground, and a contemplative space known as the Potawatomi Serenity Garden.

A unique feature of Davidson Park is the Foundation Stone, a four-foot-diameter cast iron medallion located at the center of the Hub. Designed by local artist and Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design student Megan Huss, the medallion celebrates the Near West Side community and the creation of the park.

Davidson Park aims to serve as a hub of community activity, offering a space for both daily enjoyment and special events. It represents a collaborative effort between Harley-Davidson, design firms, and the local community to create an inclusive, accessible public space that enhances the Near West Side neighborhood.
