About Hamilton Park in Anchorage
Hamilton Park is a 1.69-acre neighborhood park located in the Old Seward/Oceanview area of Anchorage, Alaska. The park was named after the nearby subdivision and was purchased in August 1974. It was initially developed as a small neighborhood park using Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) funding.
In 1986, the park underwent a redesign to address drainage issues. Prior to recent improvements, Hamilton Park featured basic amenities including a toddler play area, a basketball court, picnic tables, and an asphalt trail connecting the surrounding neighborhood to the park.
In 2019, voters approved a $200,000 Municipal Park Bond for improvements to Hamilton Park. Following public outreach and planning efforts, construction of new improvements began in the summer of 2020. The renovation project, completed in October 2020, focused on upgrading the playground and enhancing various park features to better serve the community.
The park now offers updated play equipment, including a custom-designed "Ninja Course" play area for children aged 5-12, as well as improvements to the existing toddler play area for ages 0-5. Safety surfacing upgrades were also implemented to meet current industry standards. Additionally, the project included the rehabilitation of the existing asphalt trail and the creation of a new ADA access connection.
Hamilton Park serves as an important recreational space for the Old Seward/Oceanview neighborhoods, providing a place for residents to enjoy outdoor activities and community gatherings.
