Birchett Park

Birchett Park is a small urban green space located in Tempe, Arizona. The park spans approximately 1 acre and was named in honor of the Birchett family, who were long-time Tempe pioneers and residents.

The park's history dates back to the early 20th century when Guess Birchett first came to Tempe in 1903 to visit her sister. During her stay, Guess met her future husband, Joseph Birchett, and they settled in the area. The Birchett family became active members of the community, with Guess helping to found the Tempe Garden Club in 1936 and playing a role in the development of both Birchett and Moeur Parks.

Joseph Birchett was a partner in his family's grocery store, served as a director of the Tempe National Bank, and was a member of the Tempe City Council from 1930 to 1932. Guess Birchett became locally known as the "Bird Lady" due to the many school children who toured her home and sanctuary each year.

In 1984, the City of Tempe officially dedicated Birchett Park to serve as a lasting memory of the many contributions made by the Birchett family to the community.

The park is open daily from 6 a.m. to 12 a.m., providing residents and visitors with a place for relaxation and outdoor activities.
