About Goodwin in Tempe
Goodwin Park is a 5-acre public park located in far south Tempe, Arizona. The park is named in honor of four Tempe brothers - James, Tom, Will, and Garfield Goodwin - who made significant contributions to the city's development in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
The park serves as a tribute to the Goodwin family's legacy in Tempe. James Goodwin was an early farmer and served in the territorial and state legislatures. Will Goodwin developed the first outdoor amphitheater in Tempe and, along with his wife, wrote the music to "Home on the Range." Tom Goodwin operated a grocery store in downtown Tempe and served on the City Council. Garfield Goodwin, the youngest brother, was a member of the first football team from Tempe Normal School and later served as Mayor of Tempe from 1924 to 1926.
Situated at the intersection of Taylor Drive and Caroline Lane, Goodwin Park provides recreational facilities for residents of the surrounding neighborhood. The park is open daily from 6 AM to 10 PM, offering visitors extended hours to enjoy its amenities and green spaces.
