Svob Park

Svob Park is a 7.8-acre community park located in Tempe, Arizona. Built in 1984, the park was named in honor of Robert M. "Bob" Svob, a respected community leader who came to Arizona at the age of 9 in 1918. The park offers a variety of recreational facilities for visitors to enjoy.

In recent years, Svob Park has undergone several improvements to enhance its amenities and accessibility. In 2017, the city of Tempe began renovations on the park, which included a complete renovation of the playground area. The project, totaling $400,000, was part of the city's asset-management approach to park improvements. As part of the renovation, full rubber surfacing was added to the playground, and new sidewalks were constructed to connect various areas of the park, improving overall accessibility.

The park's lighting system was also upgraded during the renovation, with old fixtures replaced by more energy-efficient LED lighting throughout the park. This improvement not only enhanced visibility but also contributed to the park's sustainability efforts. Additionally, new trash and recyclable containers, benches, and tables were added to improve the park's functionality and comfort for visitors.

In a separate project, additional trees were planted in Svob Park, bringing the total to 25 trees per acre, which aligns with the city's green space targets. This increase in vegetation not only enhances the park's aesthetic appeal but also provides more shade and contributes to the local ecosystem.

More recent improvements, completed in early 2025, further enhanced the park's amenities. Two new 20x20 ramadas were added, one located northeast of the basketball court and another northeast of the playground. These ramadas are equipped with new picnic tables, grills, and electrical pedestals, providing visitors with comfortable spaces for gatherings and outdoor meals.
