About Gene C. Reid Park in Tucson

Gene C. Reid Park is a 131-acre urban park located in central Tucson, Arizona. Originally established in 1925 as Randolph Park, it was renamed in 1978 to honor Gene C. Reid, Tucson's first Parks and Recreation director who oversaw significant expansions and improvements to the park during his tenure.

The park serves as a central gathering place and recreational hub for Tucson residents. It features mature trees providing ample shade, grassy fields, and two man-made ponds that are home to ducks and turtles. A system of paved multi-use trails totaling about 2 miles loops around the park's perimeter, connecting various amenities and providing opportunities for walking, jogging, and cycling.

At the heart of Reid Park is the Cele Peterson Rose Garden, showcasing a variety of rose species that bloom throughout much of the year. The park also incorporates flood mitigation features, which have been designed to create naturalized landscapes that offer both practical water management and aesthetic appeal.

Reid Park houses several major facilities, including a 9,500-seat baseball stadium, an outdoor performance center, public swimming pools, and the 24-acre Reid Park Zoo. The park is integrated into a larger 480-acre parks and recreation complex that includes two 18-hole golf courses, tennis courts, and an indoor recreation center.

Accessibility is a key feature of Reid Park, with numerous ADA-compliant amenities ensuring the park can be enjoyed by visitors of all abilities. The park's central location and diverse offerings make it a popular destination for families, fitness enthusiasts, and nature lovers alike.
