About Lake Park in Huntington Beach
Lake Park is a historic public park located in downtown Huntington Beach, California. Established in 1912, it is the second oldest park in the city. The park covers approximately 8 acres and is situated between Main Street, 11th Street, 12th Street, and Lake Street, just six blocks from the beach and nine blocks from the Huntington Beach Pier.
Originally named for a small fly-fishing lake that once existed on the property, the lake has since been filled in and replaced with a children's playground. The park is characterized by its mature trees, shaded green lawns, and powder-blue skies, offering visitors a tranquil escape from the urban surroundings.
Lake Park serves as a popular venue for community events and gatherings. It features a large meeting and event area with curbside parking on Lake Street, where visitors can find a clubhouse, a cement picnic patio with tables, and stainless cook tops on brick ovens. The park is often used for high school reunions, weddings, Boy Scout meetings, and annual events such as the Kiwanis pancake breakfast on July 4th.
For families and children, Lake Park offers playgrounds with slides, swings, and ladders in a large sand area. Several wooden park benches are available for parents to sit and watch their children play. The park also includes scattered picnic tables under shady groves for small gatherings, available on a first-come, first-served basis.
The City of Huntington Beach Community Services Department manages Lake Park, overseeing its maintenance and facility rentals. The park's clubhouse and large picnic area are available for rent through this department.
