About Triangle Park in Huntington Beach
Triangle Park is a historic 1.11-acre neighborhood park located in Huntington Beach, California. Established in 1912, just three years after the city's incorporation, the park has been a central feature of the community for over a century.
Triangle Park is adjacent to the Huntington Beach Public Library's Main Street Branch, forming part of a larger civic center complex. The park's name derives from its triangular shape, which was officially adopted by the City of Huntington Beach in 2011.
Throughout its history, Triangle Park has served various purposes for the community. In its early years, it was used as a recreational area, hosting activities such as baseball, croquet, tennis, and horseshoes. During the oil boom of the 1920s, it briefly housed a tent city for oil workers.
The park underwent remodeling from 1924 to 1925, during which Canary Island palm trees were planted. These trees still stand today, contributing to the park's distinctive appearance.
In 2013, Triangle Park, along with the adjacent Main Street Branch Library, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places, recognizing its significance to the cultural heritage of Huntington Beach.
Today, Triangle Park continues to serve as a tranquil green space in the heart of Huntington Beach, offering residents and visitors a place for relaxation and enjoyment of nature.
