About Burckhalter Park in Oakland
Burkhalter Park, also known as Burckhalter Park, is a quiet neighborhood park located in Oakland, California. Situated just off Interstate 580, this park serves the Eastmont Hills and surrounding community.
The park features a baseball diamond, basketball courts, and tennis courts for sports enthusiasts. In 2014, the community came together to build a new playground, which has been described as "awesome" by visitors. The park also includes an outdoor classroom area at the back, complete with benches and a chalkboard, providing a unique space for educational activities.
Burkhalter Park is named after Charles Burckhalter, an astronomer and early director of Oakland's Chabot Observatory. Under Burckhalter's leadership, the Chabot Observatory was relocated from its initial downtown location to Mountain Boulevard to escape increasing light pollution.
Most of the park's grounds are not visible from the small parking lot near its entrance, which may contribute to its typically uncrowded atmosphere. Visitors who venture further into the park are rewarded with its various amenities and facilities.
Reviewers have described Burkhalter Park as a family-friendly space, noting that it's a "good quiet place to take the kids" and "a perfect little park for running around".
