San Dieguito County Park

San Dieguito County Park is a 125-acre park located on the border between Del Mar and Solana Beach in northern San Diego County, California. The park is split into two sections - an upper park that opened in 1965 and a lower park that opened in 1977.

The park offers a variety of recreational activities and natural features for visitors to enjoy. It contains over 5 miles of hiking trails that wind through the park's hills and canyons, providing scenic views of the surrounding area. The terrain includes a mix of developed park areas and more natural, woodsy sections that make visitors feel immersed in nature.

One of the park's notable features is Activity Hill, which has 10 fitness stations, hillside ladders, lookout platforms, and two suspension bridges. From the top of Activity Hill, visitors can take in panoramic views of the coastline and north county communities. The hill also contains educational audio panels with information about local history and wildlife.

Throughout the park, there are large open grassy areas shaded by trees, ideal for picnicking or relaxing. The park includes two peaceful duck ponds in its lower section. For families, there are multiple playgrounds spread across the upper and lower park areas.

San Dieguito County Park has a rich history. The land was originally inhabited by Kumeyaay Native Americans before becoming part of a Spanish land grant in the 1800s. In 1954, 100 acres were donated to San Diego County to create the park. Over the years, it has been developed into a popular recreational area while still maintaining much of its natural character.

The park is open daily from 9:30 AM until sunset, with a small fee charged for parking. Its location near the coast allows visitors to enjoy mild temperatures and ocean breezes year-round.
