About Olympus Park in San Diego
Olympus Park is a 3.1-acre neighborhood park located in Encinitas, California, which opened in May 2021. Situated on Olympus Street, this park is part of the city's initiative to provide green spaces within a 10-minute walk for all residents. The park offers a variety of features designed to cater to different age groups and interests.
One of the park's notable features is its unique playground area. It includes a grassy hill that children can "sled" or "surf" down using cardboard scraps, providing an innovative play experience. The playground also features concrete slides, a large tunnel slide, a giant zip line, and climbing structures. For younger children, there's a playhouse and a group swing.
The park is designed with fitness and recreation in mind. It includes an exercise pad suitable for yoga and other fitness classes, a half-court basketball court, and a skate park with a pump track for skateboarding and biking enthusiasts. For those who prefer a leisurely stroll, there's a walking path and a reflexology path.
Dog owners will appreciate the dedicated dog park areas, with separate sections for large and small dogs. The park also features a large grassy area suitable for picnics and relaxation, complemented by a gazebo with picnic tables.
Olympus Park incorporates elements of nature and art into its design. It includes a garden area created in collaboration with the San Diego Botanical Garden, adding a touch of natural beauty. Public art elements are also present throughout the park, enhancing its aesthetic appeal.
The park's design took into account community input through a robust public outreach process, resulting in a space that reflects the needs and preferences of local residents. Its completion has helped Encinitas make significant progress towards its "10-Minute Walk" initiative, aiming to have a park within a 10-minute distance throughout the city.
