Dorchester Park

Dorchester Park is a 7-acre urban park located in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Originally donated by John M. Dorr in 1890 with the stipulation that it be zoned as a park, it sits along Fountain Creek between South Nevada Avenue and South Tejon Street, near Interstate 25.

In recent years, Dorchester Park has faced significant challenges. Once a place for families to visit and enjoy, it has become troubled by frequent loitering, vandalism, and illegal activities. The park's condition has deteriorated to the point where it is no longer considered a safe or desirable destination for most residents.

Local authorities and community organizations have made efforts to address these issues. In 2019, changes were implemented to improve the situation, though problems persist. More recently, in September 2024, a local homeless union organized a cleanup event at the park, focusing on disposing of needles and other hazardous materials.

Despite these efforts, the future of Dorchester Park remains uncertain. City officials have discussed the ongoing challenges and safety concerns.
