About Northside Park in Gainesville
Northside Park is a 47-acre community park located at 5701 NW 34th Boulevard in Gainesville, Florida. The park is well-known for its 18-hole disc golf course, which is the oldest standing disc golf course in the state of Florida, established in 1982.
The park underwent significant renovations in 2020, funded by the Wild Spaces Public Places initiative and contributions from the Rotary Clubs of Gainesville Foundation. These improvements expanded the park's offerings to cater to a wider range of ages and interests.
A key addition to the park is the "Generations Play Zone," designed to provide activities for all ages. This area includes outdoor games such as bocce ball, pickleball and tennis courts, pétanque, table tennis, checkers, and chess. The park also features a modern children's playground adjacent to the disc golf course.
For those seeking exercise, Northside Park offers a pleasant walking path equipped with outdoor fitness equipment. The fitness stations are designed with seniors in mind, focusing on mobility exercises that emphasize repetition rather than strength.
The park's landscape is mostly flat and moderately wooded, providing a mix of open spaces and shaded areas. While generally well-drained, the park can become soggy after heavy rains, so visitors should plan accordingly.
Northside Park is adjacent to the Gainesville/Alachua County Senior Recreation Center, making it a popular destination for older adults as well as families and disc golf enthusiasts. The park is open daily from dawn to dusk, offering a spacious green space for the community to enjoy various recreational activities.
