About Cofrin Nature Park in Gainesville
Cofrin Nature Park is a 30.4-acre natural area located in the heart of urbanized west Gainesville, Florida. Once a horse farm, this park is now returning to forest through natural succession, offering visitors a peaceful retreat within the city.
The park features a half-mile long, pet-friendly hiking trail that winds through diverse landscapes. Large hardwood trees line the forest along the picturesque Beville Heights Creek, while seepage wetlands on the slopes above the creek support lush growths of ferns and colorful wildflowers. This variety of habitats provides opportunities for wildlife observation and bird watching.
At the center of the park is a playground and a covered picnic area, making it an ideal spot for families to enjoy outdoor activities. The park also includes a tennis court for sports enthusiasts. To accommodate visitors, there are picnic tables and a portable toilet at the trailhead, as well as a bike rack for cyclists who wish to park and explore the nature trail on foot.
The Judy Broward Survivors of Suicide Memory Garden is a unique feature within Cofrin Nature Park. This garden is designed to be a place of comfort, meditation, and healing for those who have lost loved ones to suicide.
