About Tampa Waterworks Park in Tampa
Water Works Park is a public green space located in Tampa, Florida. The park was redeveloped and opened to the public in August 2014, transforming a previously unutilized area into a vibrant community gathering place. Situated along the Hillsborough River, the park encompasses approximately 5 acres of land just north of downtown Tampa.
The park is part of Tampa's Riverwalk system, extending alongside the Hillsborough River and offering visitors scenic views of the water and the city skyline. One of the park's notable features is the restored Ulele Spring, which now flows freely into the Hillsborough River, attracting wildlife and adding to the natural beauty of the area.
Water Works Park was designed to honor Tampa's history with water works, shipbuilding, and pirates. This historical connection is reflected in some of the park's play structures, including a rope climbing frame with a crow's nest that evokes a maritime theme.
The park serves multiple functions, acting as both an urban commons and a neighborhood park. It provides a venue for various community events and festivals, while also offering a peaceful green space for casual visitors. The layout of the park includes an open lawn area, which can be used for picnics or informal gatherings.
Accessibility was a key consideration in the park's design, with ADA-compliant sidewalks and facilities ensuring that visitors of all abilities can enjoy the space. The park also connects to the larger Tampa Riverwalk, allowing visitors to explore more of the city's waterfront areas.
