About Veterans Memorial Park in Boise
Veterans Memorial Park is a 38-acre urban park located along the Boise River in Boise, Idaho. The park was established in 1976 on the site of the former Idaho Soldiers Home, which operated from 1895 to 1966.
The park serves as a place to honor veterans and includes several memorials throughout the grounds. A Vietnam Veterans Memorial was installed in 2016, modeled after the Vietnam War Memorial in Washington D.C. It honors 217 Idaho veterans lost in the Vietnam War. The park also features a Patriot Walk brick pathway that links the parking lot to the Veterans Memorial Plaza.
In addition to the memorials, Veterans Memorial Park offers recreational amenities for visitors. There is a playground with equipment for both younger children (ages 2-5) and older children (ages 5-12). The park provides access to the Boise River Greenbelt, a tree-lined pathway along the river. Open grassy areas allow for various activities.
The park is open from sunrise to sunset daily. Restroom facilities are available year-round. For gatherings, there is an open picnic area and a covered shelter that can be reserved. The park's location along the river and proximity to downtown Boise make it a popular spot for both honoring veterans and enjoying outdoor recreation.
