About Castle Hills Park in Boise
Castle Hills Park is a 7.2-acre neighborhood park located in Northwest Boise, Idaho. The park offers a variety of recreational facilities and open spaces for community use.
One of the park's notable features is its designated off-leash dog area. This 2.2-acre section is available for dogs to roam freely during specific hours: from sunrise to 10:00 a.m. and from 4:00 p.m. to sunset. Outside of these hours, dogs must be kept on leashes.
The park includes several sports facilities, such as tennis courts, a basketball court, and practice fields that are often used by local little league organizations. When not in use for scheduled practices, these fields are available on a first-come, first-served basis for casual play.
For younger visitors, Castle Hills Park has traditionally featured a playground. However, as of early 2024, the main playground structure was removed due to extensive damage from a fire, suspected to be the result of arson. Construction has begun on a replacement playground, with completion estimated for summer 2025. The new design, chosen with community input, will include inclusive play features and artificial turf surfacing for improved accessibility.
The park also provides open play areas with cut grass, offering space for various recreational activities. These areas are suitable for picnics, casual games, or simply relaxing outdoors.
Visitors should note that restroom facilities and drinking fountains are typically closed during the winter months, with portable restrooms provided as an alternative during this period.
Castle Hills Park serves as a valuable community space, balancing structured recreational facilities with open areas for flexible use, catering to a wide range of interests and age groups within the neighborhood.
