About Supera Park in Chicago
Supera (Louis) Park is a small urban park covering 0.42 acres, located in the Lincoln Park neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois. Positioned on Racine Avenue, just south of Wrightwood Avenue, this park is a welcoming green space for the local community. Originally established in 1950 to address the recreational needs of Chicago’s post-World War II population, the park has undergone multiple renovations. It was officially transferred to the Chicago Park District in 1957 and renamed Supera (Louis) Park in 1990 to honor Louis Supera, a community leader known for his philanthropic contributions.
The park features a recently refurbished playground with an ADA-compliant rubberized surface, making it suitable for children of various abilities. The primary attraction is the pirate ship-themed climbing structure with design elements such as ladders, tall masts, and a ship bow, sparking imaginative play. Despite its modest size, Supera Park has become a beloved spot for families in the area, offering children a safe and engaging environment to explore. While no formal programming is available directly at this park, nearby Wrightwood Park provides additional recreational opportunities.
This park holds historical significance, serving as a key recreational space in its community for over seven decades. Its compact size and thoughtful design exemplify how even small urban parks can make a meaningful impact by fostering community interaction and providing much-needed outdoor play areas.
