About Roselawn Park in Indianapolis
Roselawn Park is an 11-acre green space in Indianapolis, Indiana, acquired in 1968. The park is notable for its large open areas, a full basketball court, parking facilities, a playground, and a shelter. Located on Indy’s northeast side, Roselawn Park has undergone significant community focus due to its proximity to the recently demolished Courtyards at Roselawn Park, a long-vacant apartment complex formerly associated with public safety issues. The park is situated on a wetland, which presents unique environmental considerations. For instance, some parts of the park, including the playground area, are built on land better suited for native planting and wetland conservation.
Roselawn Park is a part of ongoing revitalization efforts led by city officials and the community. In early 2025, the demolition of the nearby complex began paving the way for broader improvements in the area. Plans for the park include creating a comprehensive master plan for future development. This plan will integrate feedback from the community and prioritize transforming the park into a safer, more inclusive recreational space. Proposals for redesign include potentially relocating certain amenities to optimize the layout and better align with the surrounding landscape.
In its current state, the park provides basic recreational amenities, although concerns have been raised about the condition of its facilities, including outdated playground equipment and maintenance issues such as high weeds and illegal dumping. A full redevelopment project is anticipated to address these concerns comprehensively.
