About Wes Montgomery Park in Indianapolis
Wes Montgomery Park is a nearly 40-acre public park located on the Eastside of Indianapolis in the Audubon Gardens neighborhood. Named in honor of internationally acclaimed jazz guitarist Wes Montgomery, the park blends recreational amenities with open green spaces, making it a hub for community activities.
One of the park's standout features is a newly constructed covered basketball pavilion, the first of its kind in Indianapolis. Opened in November 2024, the pavilion consists of two full-sized basketball courts, two half-sized courts, bleachers, and lighting, providing a year-round venue for sports and community events. This facility is part of a broader investment in improving recreational spaces in Indianapolis.
In addition to the basketball pavilion, the park includes a guitar-shaped splash pad, paying tribute to the park's namesake. There are also playgrounds, trails for walking or running, athletic fields for various sports, and a public pool. With a mix of active and leisure-oriented offerings, Wes Montgomery Park serves all age groups and interests.
This park is a cornerstone of the neighborhood and a vital space for community growth and interaction. Local residents have long advocated for green spaces like this, which not only offer recreational opportunities but also foster social connections and healthier lifestyles.
