Skiles Test Nature Park

Skiles Test Nature Park, located on the northeast side of Indianapolis, Indiana, is an 80.91-acre natural resource area offering a serene retreat for nature enthusiasts. The park serves as the northern trailhead of the Fall Creek Parkway and is frequently used for hiking, biking, and exploring the outdoors. Previously part of the estate owned by Skiles Test, a local businessman, the property became a public park after his death in 1964, as specified in his will. The park is steeped in local folklore, including tales of the "House of Blue Lights," a mansion previously located on the estate that sparked urban legends and curiosity.

The park features over two miles of trails, including paved paths and less-developed gravel and dirt trails, which wind through its diverse landscape of wooded areas and open spaces. Visitors can observe a variety of wildlife, including birds, squirrels, chipmunks, deer, and rabbits, making it a popular spot for wildlife watchers and photographers. Its connection to the Fall Creek Greenway provides additional opportunities for longer excursions. While the park's proximity to Interstate 465 introduces some traffic noise, it remains a peaceful setting for walking, running, or cycling.

Skiles Test Nature Park is notable for its natural beauty and historical context, though it lacks major facilities. The only amenities consist of a small parking lot, which can accommodate about 15 vehicles. Overflow parking is available nearby, with a short walk back to the park. Despite its limited facilities, the park has become a beloved destination for those seeking an escape into nature within the Indianapolis area.
