Established in 1971, the park is part of the vibrant El Pueblo neighborhood, known for its rich cultural and historical significance to the city's Hispanic community. The park was developed using funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's "Parks in Cities" program, along with contributions from the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks and the National Park Service.
The park features extensive recreational amenities, including sports facilities, family-friendly spaces, and cultural resources. Visitors can enjoy a recreation center that houses the Evergreen Neighborhood Resource Center and offers meeting rooms and rental space. Adjacent to this is the Evergreen Branch Library, one of Wichita's seven branch libraries, providing educational resources and community engagement opportunities.
For children and families, the park boasts two playgrounds with distinct safety surfaces, a splash pad introduced in 2021, and a StoryWalk interactive literacy trail.
