Douglass Park is a 7-acre community park centrally located in Columbia, Missouri. The park offers a variety of amenities and serves as a hub for recreational activities and community gatherings. It is home to the Douglass Family Aquatic Center, which features a double-loop slide, a climbing wall, and spraygrounds. The park also includes two full basketball courts, a playground, an outdoor amphitheater, and a small skate spot, catering to diverse recreational needs. Additionally, there are three picnic shelters available for informal use and public restrooms open during the warmer months.
The park's history is deeply rooted in the community. Initial construction began in the 1960s, with significant additions completed in the 1970s. Douglass Pool, part of the Douglass Family Aquatic Center, was originally built in the late 1930s through a federal public works program. Over the decades, renovations and upgrades were undertaken to maintain its utility and appeal. In 1998, the Douglass Ballfield was dedicated, enhancing the park’s role as a venue for sports and community events.
Douglass Park continues to play a vital role in the Columbia community, hosting annual events such as Douglass Park Heritage Day, which features activities like face painting, lawn games, and live entertainment.
