About Optimist Park in Billings
Optimist Park is a 16-acre community park located in Billings, Montana. The park features a variety of recreational facilities and amenities for visitors to enjoy.
The park includes athletic fields, with baseball and softball facilities concentrated on the north end. There are existing ball fields as well as a new tee ball field that was added as part of recent improvements. On the south side of the park, there are more passive and unorganized recreational areas. This section contains picnic shelters, playground equipment, and open spaces for activities. Recent upgrades added new picnic shelters, sand volleyball courts, horseshoe pits, and barbecue grills to enhance the picnicking and family-friendly offerings.
The park also features paved jogging trails for walking and running. A basketball court was improved to allow for multiple uses, including the addition of pickleball nets. New adult exercise stations were installed to provide fitness options for a broader range of visitors.
Optimist Park has an indoor facility that is available for rent, though reservations must be made in person at the Parks office. The park is part of Billings' Parkland Gleaning Project, which allows harvesting of fruit from public trees.
Recent improvements to the park focused on expanding parking, updating playground equipment, and adding new amenities to serve a wider range of community members. The goal was to maintain existing park features while enhancing safety, convenience, and recreational opportunities.
