About Kyle Ranch Historic Site in North Las Vegas

Kiel Ranch Historic Park is a 7-acre historical site nestled in North Las Vegas, Nevada. The park stands as a testament to the region's rich past, featuring one of the oldest natural artesian springs in Nevada. Originally part of a 240-acre homestead established in the late 1800s by Conrad Kiel, the land has a diverse history that includes use by Mormon missionaries and indigenous Paiutes.

The park showcases several historic structures, including one of the oldest standing adobe buildings in Nevada, known as the Doll House cottage, and a brick commissary that is the second-oldest house currently standing in the state. Visitors can explore the grounds via dusty paths and a boardwalk that circles the springs, offering glimpses into the area's natural and cultural heritage.

Kiel Ranch Historic Park provides educational opportunities through interpretive nodes scattered throughout the site, informing visitors about the ranch's significant role in local history. The park's landscape includes rolling lawns, shade trees, and an active artesian pond, creating a unique blend of historical preservation and natural beauty.

In 2024, the City of North Las Vegas initiated an orchard restoration project at the park. This initiative aims to revive one of the oldest orchards in Southern Nevada, addressing food insecurity in the community while enhancing the park's historical significance. The project includes planting fruit trees, creating raised planters for vegetables, and developing walking paths and seating areas.

The park offers a tranquil oasis in an otherwise industrial area of North Las Vegas, providing residents and visitors with a space for reflection, recreation, and connection to the region's past.
