About Joe Kneip Park in North Las Vegas
Joe Kneip Park is a 2.21-acre community park located at 2800 Judson Avenue in North Las Vegas, Nevada. Established in 1965, this park serves a neighborhood of single-family dwellings in the city's mature section. In 2015, the park underwent a significant renovation as part of the National Recreation and Park Association's (NRPA) Parks Build Community project.
The park's renovation, which cost approximately $850,000, addressed various issues such as weathering, graffiti, and outdated equipment. The project aimed to revitalize the space and provide better recreational opportunities for the more than 4,000 children and families living within walking distance.
Joe Kneip Park now features modern amenities designed to cater to visitors of all ages. The renovated park includes a new playground with updated equipment, a splash pad for water play, and an outdoor fitness zone. Shade structures have been added to provide relief from the intense Nevada sun, with a 30-foot-by-30-foot shade canopy over the fitness area and another canopy covering the playground.
The park also maintains its original features, such as multi-sport courts that were converted from tennis courts during a 2001 renovation. These courts are lighted to allow for extended hours of use. The open grass areas provide space for various activities and informal play.
To enhance safety and extend usability into the evening hours, state-of-the-art LED lighting was installed, particularly around the basketball courts. This improvement addresses one of the community's primary concerns and allows residents to enjoy the park during cooler evening temperatures.
Joe Kneip Park serves as an important community gathering space, hosting events and providing a venue for local schools to showcase their talents. The park's renovation has not only improved its physical aspects but also strengthened community bonds and pride in the neighborhood.
