About Wilkinson Park in Reno
Wilkinson Park is a 4.29-acre public park located in Reno, Nevada near E. Taylor St. The park is situated in one of Reno's older neighborhoods and is managed by the City of Reno Parks & Recreation department.
Built lower than street level, this rectangular park is bounded by Albion Way, East Taylor Street, and Belgrave Avenue. Despite its relatively small size, Wilkinson Park offers a variety of recreational facilities for visitors of all ages.
The park's history dates back to 1951 when planning for Wilkinson Park began as part of the Wilkinson subdivision. In 1955, a playground, restrooms, and a shelter were dedicated, and the City of Reno officially became the owner in 1959. Over the years, the city has added sod to more areas and planted many of the mature trees that now provide ample shade throughout the park.
In recent years, efforts have been made to maintain and improve the park's facilities. As recently as 2019, $155,000 in Reno block grants was spent to revitalize the aging tennis courts, ensuring that the park continues to meet the needs of the local community.
Wilkinson Park serves as a versatile recreational space, accommodating various sports activities and providing a peaceful environment for relaxation. On any given day, visitors can observe people enjoying pickleball, tennis, and even baseball within the park's grounds.
