About Morningside Heights Park in Syracuse

Morningside Reservoir is located in Syracuse, New York, on the city's east side. The reservoir consists of three water storage tanks that serve as part of Syracuse's water supply system. The site is situated near Syracuse University and the Meadowbrook neighborhood.

While primarily a functional water infrastructure facility, the area around Morningside Reservoir has become an unofficial recreational space for local residents. The reservoir is surrounded by grassy areas and some wooded sections, offering a natural setting within the urban environment.

In March 2018, one of the water storage tanks at Morningside Reservoir experienced a partial roof collapse, temporarily taking it out of service. This incident highlighted the aging infrastructure at the site and the need for ongoing maintenance and upgrades to ensure the continued reliability of Syracuse's water supply.

The Morningside Reservoir area is part of the larger Morningside Cultural Trails network, which includes over 10 miles of walking trails on Syracuse's east side. These trails connect various neighborhoods and highlight cultural, historic, and natural points of interest in the area.
