Firefighter's Memorial Park

Firefighter's Memorial Park is a 1.2-acre urban park located in Syracuse, New York. Situated at the intersection of East Fayette Street and South State Street, this park has been known by various names throughout its history, including Centre Square, LaFayette Park, and Fayette Park, before receiving its current designation in 1972.

The park serves as a tribute to the bravery and sacrifices of firefighters, particularly those who have fallen in the line of duty. It features several monuments and memorials dedicated to local firefighters. The Hamilton White Monument, unveiled in 1905, stands on the west end of the park. It consists of a statue and seat in memory of Hamilton S. White, who lost his life fighting a fire on March 13, 1899.

On the east side of the park stands the Monument to Firemen, dedicated to the men who perished in the Collins Block disaster on February 2, 1939. At the center of the park is the Phillip Eckel Memorial, honoring the Syracuse Fire Chief who died while battling a fire on June 1, 1886.

The park is enclosed by a beautiful cast iron fence, adding to its historical charm. Visitors can find several benches and tables throughout the park, providing spaces for quiet reflection or rest. The pathways through the park are made of crushed stone, allowing for easy navigation of the grounds.
