Marshall Park

Marshall Park is a 5.5-acre urban park located at 800 East Third Street in the Second Ward of Charlotte, North Carolina. The park was named after James B. Marshall, Sr., who served as Charlotte's city manager from 1935 to 1940.

The park occupies land that was once part of Brooklyn, Charlotte's largest African American neighborhood during the first two-thirds of the 20th century. In the 1960s, the area was demolished as part of an urban renewal project, and Marshall Park was established in 1973.

A central feature of Marshall Park is a 1.24-acre pond with a fountain. The park provides an open green space for citizens and office workers, offering an unobstructed view of the Charlotte skyline. It is capable of hosting small to medium-sized events and is occasionally used as a site for protests and demonstrations due to its proximity to the city center.

Marshall Park contains several notable features, including an amphitheater, a statue of Martin Luther King Jr., and a Holocaust memorial monument. The park's design incorporates large open grassy areas, making it a popular spot for relaxation and gatherings.

While the park offers a tranquil environment in the heart of the city, it has faced some challenges. Some visitors have noted that the park could benefit from better maintenance, particularly regarding the condition of the pond and fountain. Despite these issues, Marshall Park continues to serve as a unique green space in Charlotte's urban landscape.
