Little Sugar Creek Greenway

Little Sugar Creek Greenway is a linear park and stream restoration project in Charlotte, North Carolina. When completed, it will stretch approximately 19 miles from Cordelia Park just north of uptown Charlotte, through midtown, and continuing south to the South Carolina state line.

The greenway follows Little Sugar Creek, providing a paved trail for walking, running, and cycling. It connects several neighborhoods, parks, and points of interest throughout Charlotte. The project has involved significant environmental restoration efforts, transforming what was once a polluted stream into a thriving urban waterway and green corridor.

One of the most notable sections is the "urban" portion that runs through midtown Charlotte. This area features landscaped plazas, fountains, public art installations, and gathering spaces. It has become a popular spot for locals and visitors alike to enjoy outdoor recreation and events.

The greenway is part of a larger initiative to create a network of trails throughout Mecklenburg County. It serves as a key segment of the Cross Charlotte Trail (XCLT) and forms part of the Carolina Thread Trail, a regional system spanning 15 counties.

Beyond recreation, the Little Sugar Creek Greenway plays an important role in flood control and water quality improvement. The restoration of the creek and surrounding wetlands has helped mitigate urban runoff and created habitats for local wildlife.
