About Fallon Park in Raleigh
Fallon Park is a scenic green space located in the heart of Raleigh, North Carolina. Situated just northeast of the Five Points area, this long and slender wooded area stretches between Royster Street and Oxford Road. The park covers approximately 10.3 acres and was established in 1942, making it one of the older parks in the Raleigh park system.
A notable feature of Fallon Park is the small stream that meanders through the area, branching off from the nearby Crabtree Creek. This stream creates small pools throughout the park, offering visitors opportunities for water exploration and wildlife observation. The park's natural setting is further enhanced by mature trees, including a distinctive leaning deodar cedar that was planted nearly four decades ago.
Fallon Park offers a mix of open spaces and wooded areas. The lower level of the park features a large open field, perfect for casual sports or picnicking. An unpaved walking path winds through the park, crossing over bridges and passing by large rocks along the stream, providing an immersive nature experience for joggers, dog walkers, and casual strollers alike.
The park serves as a valuable community resource, offering residents a place for recreation, relaxation, and connection with nature. Its location near residential areas makes it a popular spot for neighborhood gatherings and family outings. The northern side of the park includes additional seating areas, enhancing its appeal as a local gathering spot.
Fallon Park connects to the larger Raleigh greenway system, with the Crabtree Creek Trail accessible from the northern end of Oxford Road. This connection allows visitors to extend their outdoor experience beyond the park's boundaries, linking to other nearby green spaces such as Lassiter Mill Park and Kiwanis Park.
