About Bailey Park in Winston Salem
Bailey Park is a 1.6-acre urban green space located in the heart of Winston-Salem's Innovation Quarter. Opened in 2015, the park was developed on the site of a former RJR Tobacco Company power plant and parking lot. It serves as a central gathering place for the community, offering a flexible outdoor space for various activities and events.
The park features a natural amphitheater design, taking advantage of the area's topography. At the northern end, there is a covered stage and an amenities building, which includes restroom facilities. The stage area is designed to be versatile, with movable panels and furniture to accommodate different types of events.
Bailey Park consists of two main sections: an elevated portion with the stage, seating area, and facilities, and a lower portion with an open lawn for recreational activities. The grassy area is known for its high-quality turf, often described as the "greenest grass in the city."
Throughout the year, Bailey Park hosts a variety of free community events. These include outdoor yoga sessions, movie screenings, concerts, and food truck festivals. The park is also a popular spot for casual activities such as picnicking, dog walking, and simply relaxing outdoors.
The design of Bailey Park incorporates elements that pay homage to the area's industrial heritage, while also embracing its new role as a hub for innovation and community engagement. It serves as a front lawn for the Innovation Quarter, providing green space for workers, residents, and visitors alike.
