About Hauntz Park in Columbus

Hauntz Park is a 5.644-acre neighborhood park located in the Hilltop area of Columbus, Ohio. Acquired by the city in 1946, the park is named after Raymond Gibson Hauntz, a World War I veteran who served on the Columbus City Council and Columbus School Board, and owned a west side grocery store.

The park has not seen significant upgrades since the 1990s, leading to the deterioration of several amenities. However, in 2023, the Columbus City Council approved a $2.5 million renovation project for Hauntz Park, with completion expected in fall 2025.

The redevelopment plan aims to support and complement other parks in the Hilltop neighborhood while creating a re-imagined space for nearby residents. The project includes demolition of existing structures to make way for new improvements, which will enhance both active and passive recreational opportunities.

Planned upgrades include an improved playground, basketball court, small skatepark, open lawn, and picnic areas. The park will also receive infrastructure improvements to enhance site drainage. New features will include a constructed wetland, pollinator meadow, and a boardwalk, adding ecological value to the urban green space.
