About Glenwood Park in Columbus
Glenwood Park is a 16.72 acre community park located in the Greater Hilltop area of Columbus, Ohio. The park has a rich history dating back to 1911 when it was first acquired by the city. Originally, the land was purchased by The Society for the Prevention and Cure of Tuberculosis as a site for an "open air" school. However, due to protests from local residents, the city purchased the property the following year and converted it into Glenwood Park in 1912.
Today, Glenwood Park serves as a valuable recreational space for the surrounding community. The park features a mix of natural areas and developed facilities, providing opportunities for both active and passive recreation. A paved path winds through the park, allowing visitors to enjoy walks or jogs while taking in the scenery. The park also includes wooded areas that provide habitat for local wildlife and offer a peaceful retreat from the urban environment.
Glenwood Park is home to the Glenwood Community Center, which offers various programs and activities for residents of all ages. The center includes facilities for indoor recreation and community gatherings. Adjacent to the community center is the Glenwood Pool, a popular spot for swimmers during the summer months.
For sports enthusiasts, the park provides basketball courts and pickleball overlays. Families with children can enjoy the playground equipment, while those looking for a place to relax can make use of the picnic tables and open-air shelter. The park also features a community garden, allowing local residents to grow their own produce and foster a sense of community.
Glenwood Park's parking lot is conveniently located off Fairmont Avenue, making it easily accessible to visitors. The park's diverse amenities and natural features make it a valuable asset to the Greater Hilltop community, providing a space for recreation, relaxation, and community engagement.
