About Rhodes Park in Columbus
Rhodes Park is a 51.08-acre regional park located in the Greater Hilltop community of Columbus, Ohio. Acquired in 1976, the park provides diverse recreational opportunities for residents and visitors alike.
The park features a quarter-mile cinder track, which serves as a popular spot for walkers and runners looking to maintain their fitness. Multiple athletic fields and ball diamonds cater to various sports enthusiasts, allowing for organized games and casual play.
Rhodes Park is also home to an open-air shelter house, offering a shaded space for picnics and gatherings. Scattered throughout the grounds are picnic tables, providing additional areas for outdoor dining and relaxation.
For families with children, the park includes a playground where young visitors can engage in active play. Additionally, there is a specially designed playing field for people with disabilities, known as the "ADA Sports Pad." Developed in 1999, this inclusive feature was the first of its kind in the Midwest and has since been used as a template for similar facilities across the country. In 2008, the ADA Sports Pad was renamed in honor of Ken Campbell.
Rhodes Park serves as a trailhead for the Sullivant Trace Trail, which connects to Glenview Park and Holton Park, offering extended recreational opportunities for hikers and cyclists. The park's paved path, stretching 0.25 miles, provides an additional option for visitors seeking a smooth walking surface.
