About Creek Stickball Park in Tulsa

Creek Stickball Park is a historical landmark located in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The park is dedicated to preserving and showcasing the traditional Native American game of stickball, also known as A-ne-jo-di in the Creek language.

The park features a central playing area designed for stickball, which typically includes a single 5-10 meter pole topped with a brightly painted animal skull and a blue painted ring approximately 60 centimeters in diameter. This setup reflects the traditional elements of the Creek stickball game.

Creek Stickball Park holds cultural significance as it represents an important aspect of Creek heritage. The park serves as a venue for annual tournaments and cultural events, allowing visitors to experience and learn about this traditional Native American sport.

In November 2024, the City of Tulsa announced plans to transfer ownership of Creek Stickball Park, along with the adjacent Council Oak Park, to the Muscogee Creek Nation. This transfer recognizes the site's cultural importance to the Muscogee people and ensures that decisions regarding this sacred ground will be made by the Muscogee Creek Nation moving forward.
